A review of 20 years (1999–2019) of Turkish–French collaboration in marine geoscience research in the Sea of Marmara

This paper retraces the history and main achievements of ongoing Turkish–French collaboration in marine geoscience research Sea Marmara, which was initiated aftermath 1999, Izmit Duzce earthquakes. The resulted nine large oceanographic cruises along with six recovery operations involving diverse vessels, participation two major EU-funded programmes (ESONET-NoE MARSITE) to one bilateral project, e.g. MAREGAMI Project, co-funded by TUBITAK ANR (the Turkish French national funding agencies for research, respectively). In this paper, we review scientific contributions on tectonic evolution North-Anatolian Fault Marmara Region; relationships between faulting, seismicity, fluids ecosystems; paleo-seismology paleo-oceanography Marmara.
